JAY COHEN has been named LAWYER OF THE YEAR by the Fort Lauderdale Chapter of the American Board of Trial Advocates ("ABOTA"). Each year, members of ABOTA Fort Lauderdale are asked to select the Lawyer and Judge of the Year from a list of attorney and judicial candidates. The 2011 honorees were announced at the chapter's annual Judge's Night Dinner on January 21, 2012, at the Tower Club in downtown Fort Lauderdale.

On May 6, 2011, Jay Cohen spoke at the ABOTA Masters in Trial seminar regarding opening statements and closing arguments.

Jay Cohen was a guest speaker at the ABA Section of Dispute Resolution's Eighth Annual Advanced Mediation and Advocacy Skills Institute Conference, presenting on The Joint Opening Session in Mediation.

Jay was recently invited to speak on the topic of medical malpractice cases at a luncheon for members of Nova Southeastern University Law School Health and Tort Law Society.

Jay was an invited Seminar Speaker by the Florida American Board of Trial Advocates at its Annual Convention in Naples in July. Jay presented on “The Current Use of Demonstrative Evidence at Trial”.

Jay Cohen has been selected once again by his peers as one of “Florida’s Legal Elite”, “Florida Super Lawyers” and “Best Lawyers in America” for 2010-2011.

Attorney Jay Cohen has been appointed as co-chair of a statewide commission studying the decline in jury trials.

Jay Cohen has been appointed to the Supreme Court Screening Committee for the Judicial Nominating Committee and will Chair the 4th DCA Screening Committee which incorporates the 15th, 17th and 19th Judicial Circuits.

Jay Cohen has been appointed by the Florida Bar President to Chair the 17th Judicial Circuit Judicial Nominating Committee selection process.

Jay Cohen is now an Adjunct Professor at St. Thomas University – School of Law,  teaching medical malpractice.

Once again, Jay Cohen has been selected by his peers for inclusion in the 2010 edition of The Best Lawyers in America in the specialty of Personal Injury Litigation.

Jay Cohen serves as a member of The Florida Bar Board of Governors.
